Mac mac Pools and Mac mac Falls

Famed for its picnic spot under the pine trees, and named after Scottish miners who panned for gold in the gorge, the Mac-mac River flows over a rock formation into a clear, ice cold mountain pool where many visitors brave a quick but refreshing dip in the water.

Pilgrim’s Rest

No trip along the panoramic route is complete without a stop at Pilgrim’s Rest, an 1800’s gold rush town stuck in a time warp. Its single street features museums, prospector’s houses from the era that have remained largely intact as well as old cars. Be sure to visit the digger’s site, an authentic reconstruction of the gold dig. God’s Window

As the name suggests, God’s Window is a viewpoint that offers the most spectacular view of the Edge of the Drakensberg Escarpment affording 360 degree views Mpumalanga’s lowveld into Mozambique and beyond.

Wonder View

At 1730 meters above sea level, this is the highest point along the panoramic route which offers sensational views across the escarpment.


Sabie is wood cutters town nestled within one of the most important pine plantation regions in the country. Be sure to stop over at the famous Woodsman Pub and Grill overlooking the rolling emerald green hills.

The Pinnacle

Soaring into the sky like a skyscraper, the Pinnacle is a rock buttress located to the north of Graskop town with viewing decks offering scenic views of the area.
